Seven Most Common Residential Plumbing Emergencies

Sometimes, plumbing accidents are all too common, but there are certain unusual cases that are more prominent than others.

The fixtures attached to our plumbing are some of the most used throughout any given day in any household, and this gives them plenty of chances to break down, collapse, or clog.

Seven of the most common residential plumbing emergencies faced by a regular homeowner have been listed below. They are as follows:

Clogged Toilets

There’s nothing worse than a toilet that doesn’t want to flush. You press the flush, but without draining, the bowl fills up with more water.

Typically, this is because it is clogged by something in the tube. This may be from an unnecessary quantity of toilet paper, items for female grooming, or even from the waste itself.

It will allow the contents of the toilet to leak out on the floor of your bathroom if it keeps trying on flush. If you only have a solo bathroom in your house, this is a significant concern.

Since the toilet is your home’s most used fixture, all of these widespread plumbing emergencies are likely to spoil your day.  Try some DIY tips for unclogging the bathroom, but note that an unresolved issue may enable leakage to cause structural damage or to create health hazards with raw sewage backups.

To loosen up the clog, you can begin by using a plunger. If that doesn’t work, then it’s time to contact the experts.

Clogged Sinks and Bathtubs

When you have a sink that doesn’t drain properly and is soft, that’s one thing. It’s different because it’s not exhausting at all.

The most regular reasons for this plumbing emergency may be due to soap scum and hair buildup. A non-draining sink can’t be used to wash your hands or clean your teeth.

When you don’t have many more sinks to use, this once again becomes a significant emergency. If stuff is overflowing and begins to spill on the floor, it can also become a significant concern.

Then, with your fingers or a wire clothes hanger, try unclogging the drain yourself. Call a plumber if this does not work.

Burst Pipes

Just how it sounds, this happens for whatever reason when a pipe splits. When there is a “burst,” there would be an incredibly significant quantity of water flowing from where the split occurred.

When the tubes are super-aged, this will happen. If water pools in the pipes during the winter, it may also happen. You can never let the temperature in your home get below zero to prevent this from happening.

To ensure that they can handle the daily wear and tear they would have to go through, you can also inspect the pipes from time to time.

The freeze-thaw cycle will trigger bursts of exposed piping. This issue could turn into a complete overhaul of the tubing, which experts would need to manage.

No Hot Water in Taps

Some people don’t like cold showers in particular. In the cold, they can be brutal. When loading the dishwasher or the laundry machine, this may often become troublesome.

If a no-hot spell continues for several days, there is something you need to do to address the problem. It may be a problem with the water heater.

The heating mechanism failing, sludge piling up within the water take-up and a split dip tube are some of the most common issues involving water heaters.

In the event you see leakage via your water pump, you can still keep an eye out. That may be an indication that eventually it would run into a challenge.

Broken Water Line

Any home has a water line that brings water directly to your home from your main local water supply. You will note that the water doesn’t seem to be flowing through if this isn’t working.

Underground water lines will split due to tree roots, earthquakes and improperly aiming shovels. In your whole house, the vibration could be lower, or it could even sputter.

If you find muddy, soggy areas in your yard, it is another sign of a problem. In this spot, the line is potentially fractured. Because the water can spill on the way to the house, a damaged line will also mean higher utility costs.

Sewage Backup

Even before you see it or note it in other ways, you can detect a sewage backup. When it’s flushed, the pipe is where all waste goes.

Several pipe clogs, unpleasant sewage odours emanating from the sinks, gurgling toilets, and water pooling along the basement floor drain are symptoms of a sewer system backup.

This pollution flows back into your house as it backs up. It’s not only foul-smelling and unattractive, but it’s a health danger to those at home.

People can get sick because waste is unsanitary. You can contact a plumber to repair it quickly if you find a sewage failure emerging. With lots of chlorine, you can then make sure to scrub.

Severe Leaks

For a couple of days, a small leak will possibly be put off. Extreme leaks are, though, going to cost a lot of money. When you throw out buckets of water from the same leak every single day, you need to call someone to mend it straight away.

To keep the pipe from leaking too severely, you might continue to use tape, but tape would not be well enough to hold back a significant leak.

One of the most challenging aspects of having a home is plumbing emergencies. They not only inflict a lot of inconveniences, yet also have the potential to wreak havoc on the structural elements of your house!

Late at night, during early mornings, or during the weekend, many persons experience plumbing emergencies because many plumbing providers do not provide service calls.

Whether you are having one of these typical emergencies, or anything a bit unusual, to prevent the situation from getting worse, any plumbing emergency should be remedied fast.
